Change The Flavor Of Three Ingredient Fudge
Changing the flavor of this recipe for fudge is simple. All that is needed is a different flavor extract to replace the vanilla. Since different extracts can be more flavor-intense than others, we recommend starting with half the amount of extract and doing a taste test before chilling.
- Peppermint. This extract can be very strong in flavor and the flavor may intensify as the fudge cools.
- Orange.
- Raspberry.
- Cherry.
Add-ins For Fudge
There are a few ingredients that can be added to fudge before it sets to add flavor or texture. These are just a few suggestions that can be added when the extract is stirred in:
- Crushed walnuts.
- Slivered almonds.
- Chopped cherries.
- Mini marshmallows. Freeze marshmallows before adding them so they don’t melt.
- Pecan pieces.
- Broken pretzels.
- Reese’s Pieces.
- Toffee bits.
- Shredded coconut.
How To Make Fudge
Making fudge is fairly easy. It can be made on the stove or in the microwave.
Our go-to way of making fudge is stovetop, which is where chocolate is placed in a metal or glass bowl over a simmering pot of water.
Using a microwave, chocolate can be melted in a microwave-safe bowl in increments of 30-40 seconds at a time, stirring in between increments.
Serving Fudge
When serving fudge, it should be cut into small bite-sized squares and served at room temperature or colder.
Fudge makes a great gift. Cut a pan of fudge into small squares and package it in a tin lined with festive paper. Sometimes we add a few pieces of Peanut Butter Squares in with the fudge to add color.
We sometimes add a small piece to hot chocolate for extra chocolate flavor.
Storing Fudge
Fudge can be stored in the fridge or the freezer. In the fridge, it will stay fresh for about a week.
If frozen, fudge will last up to two months.
