This recipe is fairly simple to make and has only a few ingredients.

  • Extra Virgin olive oil
  • White onion.
  • Garlic.
  • Ground Beef.
  • Canned tomatoes.
  • Oregano.
  • Basil.
  • Salt and pepper.

Tips For Making This Sauce

The best way in our opinion to make this pizza sauce is in a heavy bottom pot. This Dutch oven is our favorite pot to use.

Let the sauce simmer slowly. A good sauce takes time to create, so don’t rush the process.

Our go-to for this recipe is Pezzetoni in Purea tomatoes, a mix of diced and ground tomatoes.

Uses For Beefy Pizza Sauce

This sauce can be used on pizza like any pizza sauce, but there are other ways to use this sauce.

  • As a pasta sauce. Add this sauce to cooked pasta to create a meal.
  • As a dipping sauce. Use this sauce for garlic bread sticks, pizza rolls, or any other foods you like to dip in pizza sauce.
  • Stuffed peppers. We actually created this recipe to use in our Pizza Stuffed Peppers.

Can This Sauce Be Made In A Slow Cooker?

Yes, this sauce can be cooked in a slow cooker instead of a stovetop.

To make it in a slow cooker, brown the beef first, then add all the ingredients to the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours.

What To Do With Leftovers

Beefy Pizza Sauce can be stored in the fridge in a covered container for up to three days.

The sauce can also be frozen for up to three months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before heating.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small white onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 pounds ground beef.
  • 2 cans crushed tomatoes, 791 ml each
  • 2 Tbsp dried oregano
  • 2 Tbsp dried basil
  • 1 Tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp pepper

Instructions

  • In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add onion and garlic to oil and cook until soft, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add ground beef and cook, stirring and breaking up the meat until beef is cooked, about 5 minutes.
  • Pour in the canned tomatoes and stir to combine.
  • Stir in oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring sauce to a simmer, cover, and cook for 1½-2 hours on medium-low, stirring ocassionally.
  • The sauce is ready when it has thickened and is no longer watery.
