In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
Add onion and garlic to oil and cook until soft, about 2-3 minutes.
Add ground beef and cook, stirring and breaking up the meat until beef is cooked, about 5 minutes.
Pour in the canned tomatoes and stir to combine.
Stir in oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
Bring sauce to a simmer, cover, and cook for 1½-2 hours on medium-low, stirring ocassionally.
The sauce is ready when it has thickened and is no longer watery.
