Making homemade blueberry waffles is easier than you may think. This recipe takes little time to put together and makes tasty waffles filled with tons of blueberries.

Waffles made from scratch taste much better than the frozen variety. These waffles can be made and frozen ahead as well for busy mornings, and they still taste better than store-bought.

Toppings For Blueberry Waffles
Besides the usual maple syrup, these waffles are great with many other toppings.
- Whipped cream. Whether you use canned, frozen, or fresh whipped cream, it makes a great topping.
- Blueberry preserves. Even though the waffles have lots of blueberries cooked into them, preserves add more of that flavour.
- Powdered sugar. A dusting of powdered sugar on top of the waffles is a good way to top waffles for an on-the-go snack or breakfast without it being too messy.
- Peach jam. Blueberries and peaches pair well together, so it’s no coincidence that topping these blueberry waffles with peaches is a perfect pairing. We like to use our Brandy Peach Sauce to top these waffles.
Tips For Making Waffles
When making waffles, we like to place the cooked waffles on a cooling rack when we take them out of the waffle iron, if they aren’t being served immediately. This keeps them from getting soggy on the bottom before serving them.
Adding the blueberries to the batter after scooping the batter into the waffle iron prevents the blueberries from running into the batter and turning the waffles purple. this way is also a good way to evenly distribute the berries in the waffles.
What Kind Of Waffle Maker Works Best?
This recipe has been tested using two different waffle makers.
If you prefer thick waffles, we recommend this Salton Waffle maker that doubles as a stuffed waffle maker. This type of waffle iron produces a thicker, softer waffle, and this recipe works well in it.
We have also tested this recipe using our Cuisinart waffle maker, making thinner waffles. The result in this type of waffle maker is a thin, crispier waffle.
Storing Leftover Waffles
Any leftover waffles can be stored in an airtight container and placed in the fridge for up to two days. Reheat the waffles in the microwave or the oven until heated through.
Leftover waffles can also be frozen for up to three months. Reheat from frozen in the microwave or oven.
Waffles can also be reheated in a toaster. This way will make them crispier than using a microwave.
