Optional Ingredients
To take this stromboli recipe to the next level, there are a few additions that can be added to the filling:
- Mushrooms. We like to sauté the mushrooms before adding them.
- Peppers. Green, red, yellow, or orange peppers make a nice addition.
- Provolone cheese. Slices of provolone add flavour and they melt well.
Any pizza topping can be added to the filling of the stromboli to make it your own.

Bake Homemade Pepperoni Stromboli in The Smoker
Want to add another level of flavour to stromboli? Bake it in the smoker!
We like to make a double batch of this recipe and bake them in our Pit Boss smoker using competition blend or hickory pellets.
Set the smoker at 375°F, and use the smoker just like an oven.
How to Serve Homemade Pepperoni Stromboli
After baking, the stromboli should be allowed to cool for at least 5 minutes before slicing. Then slice it into 1-2 inch pieces to serve.
A side of marinara sauce or garlic dipping sauce can be served for dipping the slices in.
Add a side of Caesar salad to make stromboli a meal.
Storing Leftover Stromboli
Any leftover stromboli should be wrapped and stored in the fridge. Use within two days for the best results.
Stromboli can also be wrapped in plastic wrap or parchment paper. Then stored in a freezer bag in the freezer for up to three months. No need to thaw before reheating.
Reheating Pepperoni Stromboli
To reheat it, place it on a baking tray and bake at 350°F until heated through.
Stromboli can also be reheated in an air fryer.
If frozen, remove from the freezer, unwrap and bake from frozen. Do not thaw before heating to avoid the crust becoming soggy as it thaws.
