What is Needed To Make a Hot Chocolate Mix?
To make this chocolate mix, you will need only five ingredients.
- Confectioner’s sugar. Also known as icing sugar or powdered sugar.
- Powdered milk. We use Carnation Instant Skim milk powder for this recipe.
- Unsweetened cocoa powder. We use different brands of cocoa powder depending on sales. Mostly it is Hershey’s, but we have used generic brands as well.
- Mini chocolate chips. PC Decadent Mini Chocolate Chips are always on hand in our pantry, so those are the ones we typically add to this hot chocolate mix.
- Sea salt.
How To Make Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix
This recipe is very simple to make. Add all the ingredients to a jar, cover, and shake. That’s it!
We use 24-ounce mason jars for this recipe.
When you’re ready to serve a cup, add three tablespoons of the prepared mix to one cup of hot milk or water. Stir to combine and enjoy.
Serving Hot Chocolate
A cup of hot chocolate is great on its own, but add-ins and toppings can make it even better.
- Marshmallows. Add mini marshmallows to the top of a cup of hot chocolate.
- Whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles are perfect for topping hot chocolate. Try our Homemade Whipped Cream.
- For an adult treat, add some alcohol to the prepared hot cocoa. One of our favourites is Rum Chata. Bailey’s Irish Cream or a splash of bourbon is also a great addition.
- Use a candy cane to stir the hot chocolate, adding a touch of peppermint flavour.
