What Makes This Recipe Different?

The Brioche bread is not the only difference in this recipe. Unlike most French Toast recipes, this one uses 2% milk instead of whole milk.

Why Use Brioche Bread For French Toast?

Brioche bread makes some of the best French Toast, in our opinion. The bread has a high butter content and that adds to the flavour of the bread.

It is softer and fluffier than regular bread, creating a texture that is perfect for soaking up the egg mixture.

Tips For Making French Toast

Making French Toast is easy, especially with these tips:

  • Don’t let the bread sit in the egg mixture for more than a few seconds. Brioche bread is like a sponge and it will soak up the egg mix very quickly. Too long in the egg mixture and the bread will become soggy and won’t cook properly.
  • Thick sliced Brioche works best for this recipe. We like using D’Italiano Gusto Brioche Thick Sliced Bread
  • When you take the toast off the heat, place it on a cooling rack. This will prevent the toast from becoming soggy on the bottom while you finish cooking the rest of the batch.
  • If you have a Blackstone or similar outdoor griddle, cook the French toast on it. We can cook the entire batch at once using our 28-inch Blackstone

Serving Brioche French Toast

On its own or with a side of bacon or sausages, this French toast makes a great weekend breakfast.

This French toast goes great with real Canadian maple syrup poured over it while it is still hot.

We also like to add fresh berries, such as blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

Take it up a notch with a dollop of fresh Homemade Whipped Cream.

Storing Leftover Brioche French Toast

Any leftovers should be kept in an airtight container and stored in the fridge. Use it within three days.

French toast can also be frozen in a freezer bag with parchment paper between slices. It will keep in the freezer for up to three months.

Reheating French Toast

To reheat French toast, there are three ways to do this:

  • In the oven. Preheat the oven to 325ºF. Bake until heated through about 10 minutes.
  • Air fryer. Use medium heat and air fry for 2-3 minutes.
  • Microwave. Heat for 45-90 seconds. (We don’t recommend a microwave if you want a crispy French toast. This method does make the toast soggy.)

If the French toast was frozen, we recommend reheating from frozen because the bread can become soggy as it thaws. Add a few minutes in the oven if cooking from frozen, and 1-2 minutes in an air fryer.
