What Are The Ingredients For S’mores Rice Krispies Squares?
These simple treats are made from six ingredients.
- Rice Krispies cereal. This can be any brand of rice cereal that resembles Rice Krispies.
- Graham Crackers. Whole graham crackers are used, not crumbs. The crackers are broken into crumbs and pieces for the squares.
- Butter. We only use real butter, but you can use margarine if you prefer.
- Marshmallows. Mini marshmallows are our go-to because they melt quicker than the large ones, but large marshmallows work as well.
- Vanilla Extract. Optiona,l but it does bring out the flavour of the marshmallows.
- Mini Chocolate Chips. This is what we like to use, but regular-sized chocolate chips can be used, or even chocolate chunks if you want more chocolate per bite.

Tips To Make This Dessert
Although this recipe is easy to make, there are a few tips to make it easier to make.
- A non-stick pot is useful for making this recipe because the marshmallows become extremely sticky as they melt. I use a large non-stick skillet to melt the marshmallows.
- Pressing the mixture into the pan can be sticky and messy. I like to use a bowl scraper with cooking spray or butter on it to press the cereal into the pan.
- To quickly cool the squares, place them in the freezer for 10 minutes.
- Crush the graham crackers by hand before measuring. The pieces don’t have to be equal sizes; different sizes add texture and can make each bite taste different. But the pieces should be no larger than 1/4 inch so they blend in with the cereal.
How To Serve S’mores Rice Krispies Squares
These treats can be served as a snack or dessert. They are best served at room temperature and can be served as is.
When To Serve These Squares
S’mores Rice Krispies Squares make a great summer dessert because they are easy to make and you don’t have to turn on the oven to make them. We have even made these treats outside on the side burner of the BBQ.
These make an easy dessert for a BBQ party. They can be prepared in the morning and served inside until ready to serve. They make a perfect sweet treat to serve with ice cream after a savoury BBQ meal.
They are also great for a picnic or a trip to the beach. Store them in an air-tight container and place them in a cooler on top of the other food so they don’t melt if it’s hot out.
If you’re going camping, make a batch of these to take with you. Our kids love them on the first night of camping because they can eat them while we set up the campsite.
A potluck lunch or dinner is another great place to serve these squares. Serve them alongside Millionaire Rice Krispies Treats.
Should You Store Rice Krispies Treats In The Fridge?
This is not something we recommend. The squares will be harder if stored in the fridge, and are harder to cut and bite into.
Storing these in an air-tight container at room temperature is the best way to store them. And they taste best when they are at room temperature.
Can These Squares Be Frozen?
Yes, these can be frozen for later. Wrap in waxed paper in an air-tight container and freeze for up to two months. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
