How To Make Ketchup

It is easy to make this recipe because there are only a few steps and one pot. All the ingredients are mixed together and simmered in a pot on the stove until thickened. It’s that easy.

We make ketchup on the side burner of our gas grill while we are cooking dinner most times so we have fresh ketchup for burgers or hot dogs.

Can Homemade Ketchup Be Used Like Store-bought?

Yes, this homemade ketchup can be used just like store-bought ketchup can be used.

We use this ketchup as a base for our homemade BBQ sauces like our Dr Pepper Rib Sauce.

Will This Recipe Work For Large Batches?

This recipe will yield about 250 ml of ketchup, but it can be easily doubled or tripled.

When making BBQ sauce we triple the recipe to do so. We have also made this in double batches when we are hosting friends and family for a BBQ get-together.

How Long Will Homemade Ketchup Last?

In our house, this ketchup will last about two weeks because we have teens who eat a lot of ketchup on everything.

But it can last longer in the fridge in an air-tight container like a mason jar. We have had it in the fridge for a month and it was still good.

This recipe is our go-to to replace store-bought ketchup and we would love to hear from you if you’ve tried it. Leave us a comment below.

This recipe was easy to make and is so good. I was looking for ketchup with less sugar than bottled and this one was the best I tried. Good flavor without a ton of sugar. This will be my go-to.
