Pineapple Paloma

A twist on a traditional Paloma cocktail, Pineapple Paloma is a refreshing drink to enjoy all summer long and is a crowd-pleaser. The pineapple gives the cocktail a tropical twist with a little extra sweetness.

Whether you’re looking for a cocktail to sip by the pool or to serve at a backyard BBQ, this simple cocktail is one to try. The pineapple in this cocktail pairs well with a Mexican-inspired BBQ dinner.

What Do You Need To Make A Pineapple Paloma?

The ingredients for this cocktail are similar to what you need for the classic version, with just a couple of changes.

  • Tequila. We use silver or blanco tequila, but gold can be used. Our go-to for cocktails is Sauza Tequila
  • Pineapple nectar. We use nectar because it is thicker and gives the drink more pineapple flavour. If you can’t find nectar, replace it with pineapple juice.
  • Pink grapefruit juice.
  • Sparkling water. Pineapple sparkling water can be used instead of regular to boost the pineapple flavour. Our go-to is Bubbly.

Garnishes For This Cocktail

There are numerous ways to garnish this cocktail. We usually just add a slice of lime on the edge of the glass.

When serving these cocktails to guests, we like to add a fancy cocktail umbrella or a skewer with a chunk of fresh pineapple.

Add a little spice to this cocktail with a Jalapeno slice or two dropped in the glass before serving. Alternatively, the jalapeno slices can be skewered on a cocktail stick to add as a garnish that can be stirred in to add a slight amount of heat.

Make It A Mocktail

Easily turn this cocktail into a mocktail by omitting the tequila. A small squeeze of agave syrup can be added to the mocktail to get a more authentic flavour.

When serving this drink at a BBQ, we make both cocktails and mocktails. To tell the difference between the two, we add a lime slice to the edge of the cocktails and a pineapple chunk to the mocktails.

What To Serve a Pineapple Paloma With

These cocktails are great for sipping by the lake or poolside. But they are also perfect to serve with spicy BBQ dinners and appetizers, especially Mexican-inspired BBQ.

  • Birria tacos. The sweetness of the paloma balances out the savoury heat of birria tacos.
  • Nachos. This appetizer is a perfect complement to these cocktails, bringing spicy and sweet together.

Pineapple Paloma For A Crowd

If you’re serving a crowd, easily turn this Pineapple Paloma cocktail into a jug of drinks instead of individually making the drinks.

To do this, use cups in place of ounces for the tequila and the juices. Only add the sparkling water when the cocktail is poured to top it off for serving.

Turn this recipe into a punch as well using cups like you would in the jug, but measure it all into a punch bowl for serving.
