Easy French Toast

French Toast is a breakfast favourite, usually served with real maple syrup and a sprinkle of confectioner's sugar. This easy recipe is simple enough to be made by anyone, with no skills required.

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg, optional
  • cup sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • cup flour
  • 1 loaf Texas Toast bread, white, at least 1 or 2 days old, or Brioche
  • 1 stick butter for frying pan

Instructions

  • In a flat-bottomed container, beat eggs and milk together until blended and smooth.
  • Stir in vanilla.
  • In a small bowl, mix together cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, salt and flour.
  • Slowly add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, beating to avoid clumps.
  • Heat frying pan over medium heat and melt a Tbsp of butter to coat the pan well, add more butter if needed to coat the entire bottom
  • Dip one slice of bread at a time in the egg mixture, turning to coat.
  • Lift bread carefully out of the egg mixture and let it drain a little over the bowl, before transferring to the heated frying pan.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes or until lightly browned before flipping.
  • Cook the other side until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Repeat with remaining slices of bread, you may have bread or egg mix leftover depending on how fresh your bread is.
  • Serve hot with maple syrup.
